![]() ![]() ![]() My audience, I knew, would primarily consist of English Department skeptics who would be inclined to sneer at the phrase "new age racial healing" and perhaps even question the sanity of one who would dare to investigate the matter as though it were a subject of legitimate intellectual inquiry. Hutner asked me to expand my panel presentation into a longer and more substantial article. This unpublished paper was originally commissioned by Gordon Hutner, editor of American Literary History (ALH), after he heard the author's presentation on a panel I organized for the 2003 Modern Language Association meeting entitled "“Love, Forgiveness, and the Undoing of Separation: New Age Miracles and the Journey Toward Racial Healing.” I was, at that moment, deeply into the research for what I intended to be my next book, an investigation of the surprisingly wide range of modalities through which racial healing-a then-current term-was being pursued in America at the dawn of the second millennium. ![]()
